Unlike others who have reviewed this book, I actually read Too Close first, so for me, I was team David all the way.
After reading Too Close, which is the prequel that explains how close David and Katrina really are, I was a bit sad to see Katrina falling for Elliot. But even without having read that, I still felt there was something off about Elliot. I don't know, just something about the way he behaved with Katrina, hot one minute and cold the next.
I enjoyed the story, but the editing made it a struggle to get through in some instances, especially around dialogue, which is one of my pet peeves.
After the dramatic ending of Too Close, I was keen for this and glad it was written from Katrina’s angle because it gave me great insight into her thought process and she has some amazing growth. The way Lilliana has written the love triangle is very well done. I have been Team David all the way and hoping against hope that they would get together.
This is the book that has drawn great divide. It’s pretty much mandatory that you have to choose – Team Elliot or Team David. Being honest, I was a swinging voter until Elliot took a dose of douchetard and acted like one. Stupid boy - but in saying that – I always like to praise the author for invoking such a response from me. I was angry at him. Angry at Beth and Bianca but really dirty on Eliott. Readers will be unhappy to see what happens but Lilliana is famous for happy endings, give it a chance.
Katrina is a frustratingly delicious character and I have to keep telling myself ‘she’s a teen!’ She covers a lot of spectrums. She’s confident but aloof, she follows her heart but that ends in drama. Katrina is strong but she’s also very weak. It’s a complex story to talk about without giving too much away. Thank God I read Too Close first because if I’d read this one because I would have thrown my paperback across the room.
If you like angst, new love, rekindled love, snarky dialogue and heartache – you have to check out this book.
I bought a copy of this paperback with my own money – this has not swayed my opinion one iota!
Hmmm where to begin...oh that's right nothing happens in this book ever!! It was very hard to get through. I kept reading hoping something would happen, but everything was to damn perfect. For one thing Elliott and Katrina meet at work and their job has a `no dating policy` they get caught once and only get a slap on the wrist that's it really?!? Elliott and Katrina start dating and do it wherever they please even in a club full of people wow!! I did love their attraction towards each it was so hot and heavy. Now Katrina has a best friend named David and because of Katrinas past relationship he feels more overly protective of her and starts to feel heavy feelings for her. I did feel for David I really did, but I really wanted Elliott to be with at the end. He was so sweet to her they were madly in love. Now I know he was an ass at the end but who can blame him? She gave up to easily and just didn't care by the end what really happened I just wanted to finish it already. I won't read the second book cuz he should of been with Katrina. Thank Goodness it was free or else I would of been utterly upset.
This book started out great. I love stories with best friends like the relationship between Katrina & David. I really liked Elliott's character & watching him come out of his shell. That said, I was disappointed with how the story was written. The plot idea was great, especially Katrina & Elliott learning & exploring each other. But at the turning point of the book I felt like some of my senses had been shut off. It was kind of like watching a movie in color with surround sound and right at the good part it goes to black and white with subtitles. Instead of being a clenching OMG drama, it became a subdued documentary. We have the facts but I don't feel a sense of closure between the characters, even with the epilogue that was added. David's feelings for her were just under the surface but still enough for me to wonder when he'd finally act on them. Katrina's feelings for Elliott were off the charts and you would think we'd get a hint of her true feelings for David brewing under the surface but it's just not there. Most of the time, during intimate moments with Elliott, David doesn't even enter her thoughts. When Elliott clams up and the big reveal happens I started to wonder if my kindle had skipped pages. I kept thinking I missed the buildup. I wish nothing but good things for the author & her characters. Unfortunately, I don't have an interest in reading any further into the series.
I seem to be having a hard time lately finding a female lead that it's a damn idiot. Katrina is supposed to be a college student that is working on a law degree, working in a law office and training for a triathlon. But she has these interactions with other characters that are totally unbelievable and she can't seem to cope. Her ex abuses her and then contunues to harass her, she does nothing. A couple of ladies at her work are acting like they are from the movie mean girls and she's does nothing. The only thing she does do is grab pieces of fruit then then train for her triathlon for hours at a time. Seriously, she grabs a banana and then swims laps for 2 hours. She grabs an apple and then runs for 2 hours. She doesn't eat lunch on her lunch break, she runs. Then on Friday nights so goes out and gets drunk. EVER FRIDAY. Then on top of that there seems to be a theme of making out at inappropriate times. We just went for a run? Let's have a sweaty make out session. You just fractured your nose and got punched in the face? Let's totally make out.

So, as you can see I despised Katrina but really the WHOLE book is about one love interest. Katrina paints him as a really great guy. The focus it totally on him, and he's likeable....then all of a sudden he's a jerk and she's with someone else and the book ends. Bam! Just like that.
